CLASS RESULTS & CRITIQUES
Many thanks to the NNC for the honour of judging this show and also to all the exhibitors for allowing me the opportunity of making an opinion of their dogs, I
considered it a great privilege.
All Newfoundlands presented were sound with no major faults and were in my mind able to undertake a day’s work either swimming or draught work. I was very impressed
with the dogs and pleased with the breed in general. The most difficult class of the day for me was veteran bitch as the quality of the entries was outstanding.
Dogs
Minor Puppy Dog (4,0)
1st - Mr & Mrs G Canning - Zentaur To Those Who Wait: This boy was the largest of my first three but also the eldest. Good well proportioned body with broad front. Correct teeth and nice eyes. He moved well with confidence, a very promising youngster.
2nd - Mr G & Mrs D Burns - Kyrimara Mystic Wave: White and black boy of decent size and well presented. Correct teeth but eyes a bit loose but will hopefully tighten up a little as he matures. Slightly down on his pasterns today but moved well and looked happy in the ring.
3rd - Mr A G & Mrs K J Farrar - Hanningfield Metallica at Darkpeak: Good looking boy at just six months. Lovely expression, good teeth and nice dark eyes set well apart. Moved well and again looked happy in the ring.
Res - Ms J Irving & Mr P Luxton - Hanningfield Lemmy
Puppy Dog (3,1)
1st - Mrs E M Dickson - Zentaur Der Kapitan Wispered Omen: Large well proportioned boy presented in excellent condition. Correct scissor bite, dark eyes and a solid head but not over done. Strong neck of good length leading to a solid level back. Good angulation with an abundance of bone and good muscle used well on the move. Definitely one to keep an eye on in the future.
2nd - Mr R Burton - Vodahond Against All Odds: Again a solid good sized dog, very similar to number one with very little to split the two. I would have been happy to take either boy home. Well developed for his age, good teeth and nice dark eye giving a gentle expression. Strong head with short muzzle, body developing nicely with well covered ribs, short in loin and with a good turn of stifle. Moved with vigour.

Special Open Black Dog (2,0)
1st - Mr A G & Mrs K J Farrar - Ch Cape Lewisporte Nirvana at Darkpeak JW (Imp): This boy looks so good in profile as he is nicely short coupled with a well proportioned head and dark neat eyes with a kind expression. Good dark pigmentation to mouth with correct teeth. Well extended neck and strong top line. Plenty of width at the front as is correct for this working breed. Ribs are well sprung and a deep chest. Tight loins and correct length and set of tail. Sensible angulation. He moved well covering the ground cleanly, I just wished he looked a little happier in the ring. Never the less a very stunning gentleman.
2nd - Mr I & Mrs R Hutchinson - Wuzibears Miami: Again an attractive boy with good substance and a distinct look of contentment. Unexaggerated head with neat ears lying close to head and small dark eyes. Powerful neck with good length. Top line just slightly stronger on number one on the day but strong angulation. Perfect length and set of tail. Coat in super condition. Good solid movement
Special Open Brown Dog (1,0)
1st - Miss S McPhail - Spirebear Golden Barley: This boy has come on so well since I last judged him as a youngster. He is of sound type with still more to come. As is wanted from this breed he has a soft, gentle expression with the light eye so typical of a brown. Broad head with small ears, correct teeth and broad muzzle. Nicely extended neck, expansive front with deep chest and straight legs. Well proportioned height to length of body enhanced by a lush dark brown coat. Adequate angulation and super muscle throughout. Moved with the power expected of a working dog.

Good mouth with correct dentition and not too much flew. Neck well placed on strong shoulders, ample width to chest and well ribbed. Moved very well.

Good mouth with clean teeth but would have preferred slightly tighter eyes. Nice coat, good reach of neck and width fine at front with well sprung ribs. Correct tail set, length and carriage on the move. Angulation fine. Well shaped feet.

Good wide back and correct set of tail. Muscular loin, no excessive angulation and moved with ease when moved a little slower.
2nd - Mrs N Owles & Miss C Bristow - Zentaur Love Me N'Mend Noirbear: Another very nice girl and well presented. Good mouth and lovely dark eyes set in a pretty face. Ears set well back, good neck and shoulders, adequate bone and angulation. She didn’t show quite the same enthusiasm as number one on the move today but the handler did a good job of keeping her movement looking smooth throughout
Open Bitch (6,4)
1st - Ms D Ball - Newgradess Llori Nanya JW ShCM: A substantial brown bitch presented in lovely condition with a dark lush coat. She is a lovely breed type well balanced and super in profile. Broad head but not too much, still giving a feminine expression with a lighter eye as becomes most browns. Good bite, short muzzle and correct ear set. Good length of neck, well ribbed giving plenty of room for this working breed. Plenty of bone and muscle on this girl. A little close at the rear but moved well when her handler slowed her down a little.
2nd - Ms J M Lindley - Sensitivity Bliss Nikita at Lindgreave (Imp Pol): A good looking female presented in lovely condition. Slightly smaller than number one and I would have preferred more bone. Small dark eyes, again a good length of neck, straight front with adequate width. Elbows nice and close to body, deep chest and plenty of muscle. Moved soundly.
Special Open Black Bitch (4,0)
1st - Mrs P Leech - Nandobears Happy Heart and Soul JW: A good solid bitch with a fabulous outline which is proportioned and square. She has for me a sound, perfect head, good strength in neck on solid shoulders. Good width at the front with a broad chest, broad back and correct set of tail. She covered the ground with ease. I liked her very much as she is my type.
2nd - Mr S M & Mrs K L Hietschold - Krystalcove Denim Opals N Gold at Chrishelkate: Again this girl has a lovely head which I consider to be the old type, strong yet not over done and still giving softness in expression. Good small dark eyes, correct mouth and nice length of neck. Spring of rib and lack of width sadly lets her down for me which is a real shame as she has everything else going for her...nice angulation, level top line kept on the move and she covers the ground so gracefully.
