Class Results & Critiques

Thank you to the committee for the invitation to judge this club open show, and to all the exhibitors who entered . I consider it a real honour. As in keeping with the working functions of the Newfoundland and the breed standard, I was looking for a strong profile, balance, proportion, powerful movement and of course the benevolent disposition. I was not disappointed. Needless to say that in some classes there were some tough battles but I was pleased with my choices and the good nature in which my decisions were taken. I commend all the exhibitors for the care they took in preparing their dogs for the showring which reflects the pride we have for the breed.

1st – Mr M & Mrs J Groves – Bridgestone Loch Lomond (AI): A big Landseer lad at 10 months. Head is developing nicely with correct eye and ear set , good bone and muscle throughout for age . Nice length of neck into strong shoulder set and a wide straight front, with well set ribs. Well muscled rear assembly allowed top line to be maintained on the move and he covered the ground easily. Nicely marked and well presented. Best puppy dog, Best puppy in Show.

Special Veteran Bitch (1,0)

1st – Mr S M &amp Mrs K L Hietschold – Chrishelkate Be Dazzled: An elderly bitch at over 11 years of age, however still solid and of good build with sound head and body proportions. Feminine head, but would prefer a darker eye to compliment her coat which appears to be in between stages at the moment. Sound movement and shows with confidence. Well presented. Best Brown Bitch.

3rd – Mrs P Franklin – ShinglebayI’ve Gotta Be Me: A 23 month old black bitch of a good size and presents a neat profile. Proportions and structure developing well. Feminine head with good eye and ear set leading to adequate length of neck. Nice wide chest and well sprung rib. Good drive when on the move but occasionally lost her top line. Now needs to bring it all together as she matures.

Well presented.

2nd – Miss L & Mr J Smith – Comfortcove Careless Wispa JW: Smaller and lighter in frame than 1. A feminine head with clean dark eye. A developed chest leading to a soundly built body which maintained a level topline on the move. Preferred the power and drive of 1.

3rd – Ms A &amp Mr H DeChamps – Mayosea Crystal Clear: A 2 year old black bitch. Longer in the body than 1 & 2. A good developed head but would prefer a tighter eye. She has strength and structure throughout but not as balanced as 1 & 2.
