Our second Championship Show of 2024 held on 03 August at The Kennel Club Building, Stoneleigh Park, Warwickshire was judged by Ms. Loredana Salina-Toma (Fairweathers).

Main Winners

Introduction to Loredana Salina-Toma

I have been involved in purebred dogs for over 30 years, starting as exhibitor, then breeder, and ultimately as FCI judge for Group 2 and 5.  I have owned, bred, and handled Newfoundland under the prefix ‘Fairweather’s’.

In 1996 I got my very first Newfoundland, Ch. And I’m Great To Be Back “Bruce”, and his sister Any Chance For You “July”, both imported from USA.  Julie become my foundation bitch, Bruce during the years became a very famous representative of the breed.  Not only because of his multiple Best in Show winnings and being the very first Newfoundland who won the Working Group at Crufts, but also, thanks to his many successful children around the world as well as earning the title of ROM in US.

Bruce was followed by his nephew, my own breeding Ch. Fairweather’s A Great Pretender – Sam, who also visited the UK.  He followed his uncles paw prints in show rings by gaining 14 Champion tittles and also, he proved his value in breeding earning the tittle of ROM in US.  One of the highlights on Sam’s show career was him winning Best of Breed at the World Dog Show in Milano in 2000 being only 15 months old.

Besides Bruce and Sam I have had an honor to own many memorable and notable Newfies; Ch. Main Tickle Quickly Bewitched – Millie, Ch. Fairweather’s Keeping The Faith – Matthew, Ch. Waterbear’s Only To Fairweather – Brendon, Ch. Waterbear’s Glory for Fairweather – Macie and Ch. D’Fairweathers for Shadows Eternity – Simon, just to mention few.  In addition to these legendary Newfies we have bred several champions and winners, from numerous different countries.

I have loved showing and handling my own dogs in the show ring.  I have learned most from watching – watching people handle, train, groom, and breed dogs, regardless of which breeds.  I tried  to learn from others’ successes and mistakes.

Newfoundlands have not only left their paw prints in my heart, but also to Newfie lines even these days, many have been the foundation for several successful Newfoundland Kennel that are active today.  It is heart warming to see their great great grandchildren to carry on the beautiful legacy of the ‘Fairweather’s’ Newfoundland dogs.

I qualified as a FCI judge in 2016, currently I’m judging FCI Group II and V. I judge in Italian, German, French and English.  It has been a privilege to judge in, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Estonia, Finland, Norway, Serbia, Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic, South Africa, Slovakia and of course my home country Switzerland, and the honour to judge Newfoundlands as well the Group II at the world dog show in Geneva in 2023.

The Newfoundland is my passion I dedicated time and study to the breed, writing an commentary on the standard in five different languages.

It is a privilege and honour for me to be invited and judge the first time in UK your Champ Show, I have visited the UK many times as an exhibitor and always keep in mind this great time, thank you for giving me this opportunity.

“I would like to thank the Committee of the Northern Newfoundland Club for the invitation to judge on this weekend (Saturday 3rd August 2024) your Single Breed Championship Show. It was a great honour for me and feeling many positive emotions. I would also to say thanks to every exhibitor who entered his dogs and accepting my decisions with sporting manners because you, breeders and exhibitors are the most important part of the show. We had a great entry, with 119 in total, I saw some very nice dogs.

Well, what I can say of my lovely ring stewards, they all did an excellent, very professional work, which is so important for running such a show, the atmosphere was excellent. I want to congratulate to the Committee for the extraordinary organisation. I left there a piece of me.”
