Class Results

“It was a great pleasure for me to judge the Championship Show for the Northern Newfoundland Club the good entry of 89 dogs. Secretary Steve Hietschold and his team had everything running smoothly and I was assisted by a team of hard-working energetic stewards Rose and John Evans and Stella Baxter. Whenever I judge the breed it is clear how much the exhibitors love their breed, in their affection for their dogs and their characters … they are not just commodities for winning … and the applause for all the winners is further testament to this. So too is the Welfare branch of the club which funds rescue dogs and how wonderful to see the parade of rescued Newfies in the lunch break. Well done indeed!

I thought that some exhibits carried too much weight which detracted from their outline and balance and there were a few short ribcages giving long couplings and often resulted in a weak topline. A couple of tails carried with a bend in them which detracts from the picture. However, typing up my notes I realised what depth of quality there was in the bitch classes which resulted in close decisions a very good challenge. I am sure the bitçhes who featured there will have good futures ahead.”

DOGS

Baby Puppy Dog (2 entries / 1 absent)
1st Burton’s Vodahond Arlo

“5 months old black and he really impressed me for his conformation, movement and temperament. His head is the correct shape and well balanced, with good eyes. His movement was remarkable for this age; coordinated and with good width and stride and his topline steady. I shall keep me eyes on him and hope he lives up to this great promise.”

Veteran Dog (3 entries / 2 absent)
1st Ryan’s Newfangled Shenanigans

“A substantial black dog of 8 years who is a little long for balance. Holds a good topline. Enjoying his day. Good rear movement. Needs a touch more angulation in front which shows in his movement. Soft expression which is such a feature of this breed. In firm condition and good coat.”

Special Veteran Dog (No entries)
Minor Puppy Dog (No entries)
Puppy Dog (6 entries / 0 absent)
1st Sheridan’s Two Rivers Wise Choice at Colnbear (Imp USA)

“9 months black of high quality and great potential. He is well grown and promises to be of good size. Not yet fully mature in chest and rib but the frame and balance is there. Beautiful head and eye. Excellent movement and topline. In lovely coat. Best Puppy Dog.”

2nd Leech’s Mileoak Utah Beach

“10 months Landseer, more mature in chest and rib than the winner, he has very strong bone. Good head shape coat and markings. I preferred the front movement and tail carriage of the winner.”

3rd Moore & James’ Starnewf Mr Dark Sky
Res Payne’s Bearhugs Rockefeller at Squestpaws
VHC Jenkins & Slaughter’s Pure Love Kazko Slupski with Mirawaters (Imp Pol)
Junior Dog (3 entries / 0 absent)
1st Moir’s Newgraden To The Moon An Back

“12 months brown which I liked a lot and despite his youth was my choice for Best Brown In Show. He has very good size and bone and proportions and holds his firm topline on the move. Very good head but his eyes are a little large but the colour is appropriate. I liked his substance, rib and chest and he moved very well. Can just be a touch more confident with his tail carriage. Coat is changing and is a good colour.”

2nd Jenkins & Slaughter’s Pure Love Kazko Slupski with Mirawaters (Imp Pol)

“9 months black puppy at a rangy teenage leggy stage and needing time to fill his frame. Good rear action.”

3rd Moakes’ Mileoak Huxley
Graduate Dog (9 entries / 3 absent)
1st Austin’s Davistell Springsteen of Elbear (A.I.), JW

“23 months, appealing for his shape and balance and excellent topline held on the move with correct tail carriage. He has very strong bone and good ribcage which can develop further. Correct coat texture. Not yet finished his development of head but he has a lot of quality and type.”

2nd McDonald’s Shadowrise Fire And Ice

“Big impressive dog who was beautifully presented. Masculine head with maximum lip for my taste. Drove well from his hocks. I liked him a lot but he needs more spring of rib yet.”

3rd Watson’s Newfangled Don’t You Dare at Cacodom
Res Jenkins & Slaughter’s James Bear Of Geletsland with Mirawaters (Imp Svk)
VHC Gorvin & Cole’s Davistell B’Mian Rapsody of Newfnouveau (A.I.)
Post Graduate Dog (3 entries / 1 absent)
1st Blackburn’s Disoranto A Perfect Match (Imp Pol), JW

“Disappointing class of two dogs who were polar opposites and it was a difficult choice. A 2 year old out of a smaller mould and I would prefer more bone and chest. Head of good shape with small dark eyes. He is a little narrow in his front action. Scored in head, eyes and rear movement.”

2nd McPhail’s Anchorbrook Aye Aye Cap’n

“Bigger stronger dog who was well present and looked the winner on first view. He scored in bone and front action. Masculine head but eyelids were loose. His rear action was disappointing and I hope that will strengthen.”

Limit Dog (10 entries / 1 absent)
1st Turner’s Newfangled Roodimental at Torbenpaws

“A good class with two very good dogs at the top. 3 year old black presented in superb condition. He looked a picture of breed type and he didn’t disappoint on the move, holding his shape and going well at both ends. Lovely head type and correct eye shape and colour.”

2nd Hosie’s King Of Helluland Jungle Book at Shadowrise (Imp Svk), JW

“23 months big impressive dog of size and substance … which I like so he drew my eye immediately. He moved very well but his slightly high tail carriage detracts a little and hope that can settle. Strong masculine head with good eys but maximum lip for me. Nevertheless I liked him a lot.”

3rd Lowther’s Kenamu Just The Ticket for Valleybears (IKC)
Res Lindley’s Legend I Am Canadian Beardog for Lindgreave (Imp Cze)
VHC Drakeford’s Mississippi-Missouri Walking My Angel (Imp Srb)
Open Dog (5 entries / 0 absent)
1st Blake’s Ch. Sandbears Masterpiece

“4 year old black who won the group under me at WKC last August but it is always interesting to see dogs in their breed ring. I commented then that I would prefer a bit more of him and I have not changed my mind on that but he has excellent bone and substance and there is no doubting his sex. In great form and looked like a galleon in full sail going round the ring. His head is balanced with lovely eye and neatest of ears and clean in lips. He can be a little cleaner in his front action, like many others and I felt there was nothing to beat him on the day. Presented to look a picture. CC and Best in Show.”

2nd Chapman’s Ch. Nandobears You’ll Never Walk Alone (Imp Deu)

“2 year old black of similar type, just a liitle longer for balance. Beautiful head and lovely expression. Very good ribcage for depth, spring and length (I found more than a few short ribcages in this entry). Good mover but not quite the carriage of the winner. He is still a young dog and I think he will get even better. Reserve CC.”

3rd Stanton’s Ch. Fluffy Avalanch Snow Paw by Fairweather’s (Imp Che)
Res Duff’s Ir. Ch. Titanbears Vainglorious, JW ShCEx OSW
VHC Crosier’s Nurburgnewf Cayman, ShCEx
Special Open Black Dog (2 entries / 0 absent)
1st Watson’s Newfangled Don’t You Dare at Cacodom

“Third in the Graduate class. Smaller dog shown in great condition: his coat and presentation were excellent. Very fluent mover. He is very much a teenager in body.”

2nd Gorvin & Cole’s Davistell B’Mian Rapsody of Newfnouveau (A.I.)

“Bigger dog of the same age and looking rangy. I liked his bone and outline but needs rib and substance.”

Special Open Brown Dog (3 entries / 2 absent)
1st Godden’s Ch. Zentaur Bout That Jam

“3 year old of good proportions and great bone and good substance. A good mover at both ends. His croup is a little flat and results in high tail carriage. Masculine head but I would have preferred more rise to skull.”

Special Open White & Black (Landseer) Dog (4 entries / 1 absent)
1st Leech’s Mileoak Utah Beach

“See 2nd in Puppy Dog.”

2nd Payne’s Newetta’s Let’s Party at Squestpaws (Imp Dnk)

“4 year old who is impressive for his size and beautifully marked coat and his great drive from the rear. He is not yet fully mature in substance chest and rib and this showed in his front action. I liked his head and expression. Could have done with a bigger ring. Tail carriage needs to settle.”

3rd Moakes’ Mileoak Huxley

BITCHES

Baby Puppy Bitch (6 entries / 3 absent)
1st Chapple’s Vodahond Violet for Peakcharm

“Litter sister with a beautiful head and expression, good proportions and lovely bone and feet. A lot of her brother’s attributes but not as firm in topline yet, but another good prospect.”

2nd Burton’s Vodahond Jasmine

“This must have been a good litter and there is not much between them. Higher on the leg than her sister at the moment but scores in her movement.”

3rd Hosie’s Shadowrise Smash’n Grab
Veteran Bitch (4 entries / 1 absent)
1st Adair’s Ch. King Of Helluland Love Actually at Darebear (Imp Svk), JW ShCM ShCEx OSW

“A great class of high quality bitches: Three Champions and it was not an easy decision. 8 year old year old black and I loved her balance and substance with femininity and she was so light on her feet. Beautiful head and eye, very sound action and good topline. Made the last four in the challenge and was Best Veteran in Show.”

2nd Farrar’s Ch. Disoranto Juliana Blue at Darkpeak (Imp Pol), JW

“7 year old, another beauty and my winner at first glance with her beautiful outline and presented in top form. Loved her for head and balance and her great rear drive but on the day I preferred the front action of winner … but I was splitting hairs to separate them.”

3rd Mercer’s Ch., Ir. Ch. King Of Helluland Keep Distance at Larkharbour (Imp Svk)
Special Veteran Bitch (No entries)
Minor Puppy Bitch (1 entry / 0 absent)
1st Payne’s Newetta’s I Melt Your Heart (Imp Dnk)

“6 months beautifully marked Landseer who is remarkably sound and coordinated on the move. Her head needs time to develop in skull and muzzle but she has lovely eyes. Good topline with gentle slope to tailset. I hope she will develop a little more bone. Full of character. A lot of promise.”

Puppy Bitch (6 entries / 0 absent)
1st Leech’s Mileoak Dee Day Darling

“Great class, full of quality puppies which augurs well for the future. 10 months Landseer with great bone and substance, coat and markings. Feminine but strong head and lovely eyes. Carries an excellent topline and she is a good mover at both ends. Can settle with tail carriage. Won this good class and in the challenge had a pull in maturity over the younger dog who promises a lot for the future. Best Puppy in Show.”

2nd Lloyd’s Stelamah Zafirah hefo Cewrirdwr

“9 months Landseer, a little lighter in frame than the winner but loved her movement and carriage, very good shape and balance.”

3rd Duff’s Titanbears Requiem
Res Jasper’s Bearhugs Empire
VHC Woodhall’s Bearhugs Grand Central
Junior Bitch (4 entries / 0 absent)
1st Stanton & Latham’s Mileoak Hocus Pocus

“A very even class of quality. 17 months with beautiful head and expression. Best shape and topline in this class. Excellent coat. Very good movement.”

2nd Watson’s Newfangled Yes You Did at Cacodom

“16 months, another quality bitch with beautiful headpiece. She has good rib but not as finished in chest as the winner and this showed in her front action.”

3rd Popple’s Mileoak Wishing On A Star
Res Duff’s Titanbears Requiem
Graduate Bitch (5 entries / 1 absent)
1st Turner’s Nandobears Bisquit Rose Baranova (Imp Deu)

“Took my eye immediately as a picture of breed type. This black of 22 months filled my eye, combining size, bone, substance with lovely head qualities. Absolutely sound on the move. In the challenge she just lost a little confidence at one point but I loved her and she won Reserve CC. I hope she will go on to greater things.”

2nd Ryan’s King Of Helluland Harley Quinn for Bearnessitie (Imp Svk)

“Another top quality one from this affix. Beautiful profile movement coming from excellent front and rear angulation. Lovely headpiece. Not as firm in topline as the winner whose couplings I preferred.”

3rd Probyn’s Oialt Climbing Back
Res Stanton & Latham’s Mileoak Hocus Pocus
Post Graduate Bitch (5 entries / 1 absent)
1st Hietschold’s Davistell Babee Love at Chrishelkate (A.I.)

“Black of 23 months of lovely outline and balance and the best movement in the class. She needs time to fill her frame but the construction and ribcage are there. Lovely head and eye. Should have a good future.”

2nd Hosie’s Shadowrise Wild Fire

“A very good brown bitch which I liked immensely. She is more finished in rib, chest and substance than the winner. She is very sound on the move but her high tail carriage just takes away from the picture.”

3rd Adair’s Chateaunewf Make My Day for Darebear
Res Sepp’s Valleybears Proud Mary
Limit Bitch (6 entries / 1 absent)
1st Coldwell’s Twillin Gate Villustrious among Zentaur (Imp Bel)

“Won a strong class on her size and substance, topline and ribbing and very good movement. A strong bitch with excellent bone. Shown in good form.”

2nd Mills & Chatburn’s Oialt Back With A Icy Three, JW

“Feminine bitch who really covers the ground with long stride and good drive from the hocks. Not the ribcage of the winner which showed a little in her topline.”

3rd Davis’ Sasquatch Dream Your Dreams
Res Constable’s Valhalabears Just In Time
VHC Haresign’s Will Of The Emperor Could This Be Love (Imp Esp)
Open Bitch (5 entries / 1 absent)
1st Lloyd’s Cewrirdwr Morgana

“This 4 year old black is totally balanced and unexaggerated and held the best topline on the move. Feminine head and good eye, clean neck into shoulder, very good rear drive and good tailset and carriage. Scores in her clean front action and never stopped showing in the challenge to top a line up of quality bitches. CC and Reserve Best in Show.”

2nd Bull’s King Of Helluland Blue Organza (Imp Svk)

“A stronger bitch all through who pressed the winner hard and she impresses with her bone and substance. Winner had the edge in front movement and topline.”

3rd Popple’s Mileoak Loch Noir
Res Coldwell’s Ch. Zentaur This Is Jam Hot (A.I.), JW ShCM OSW
Special Open Black Bitch (6 entries / 0 absent)
1st Bull’s Ch. Sandbears What Ya Fancy at Ravenshore

“Beautifully presented bitch who took the eye for her outline, croup and correct tail carriage. Feminine, well shaped head. Excellent ribcage and well coupled. I would prefer just a little more leg for perfect balance. Made the last cut in the challenge.”

2nd Smith’s Comfortcove Pixie Dust

“5 year old in great condition. Full of type in headpiece, substance and bone. I liked her a lot but couldn’t quite match the winner in front action, but I loved her balance.”

3rd Farrar’s Ch. Darkpeak Starlight Express

“Loved the type here but unfortunately carrying too much weight which was evident on the move.”

Res Mills & Chatburn’s Ch. Zentaur Drop It Like Its Hot for Oialt (A.I), JW OSW
VHC Baxter and Morris’ Starcove Sister Act to Davistell
Special Open Brown Bitch (1 entry / 0 absent)
1st Sepp’s Valleybears Proud Mary

“6 year old in good coat and she has good head shape. She was carrying too much weight over her good ribcage and this made her look short on the leg and detracted from her movement.”

Special Open White & Black (Landseer) Bitch (3 entries / 1 absent)
1st Leech’s Mileoak Dee Day Darling

“See 1st in Puppy Bitch.”

2nd Lloyd’s Stelamah Zafirah hefo Cewrirdwr

“See 2nd in Puppy Bitch.”
