I’d like to thank the Northern Newfoundland Club for their hospitality and for putting on such a happy show and for the enormous ring.

I thought that the bitches were of better quality than the dogs but for me, the best classes were the Veterans, especially Veteran Dog. The first four in this class were beautiful, so well made and moving so soundly. They could teach the youngsters a thing or two.

I was pleased with my principal winners. I see that the Dog CC, Bitch CC and the Reserve Dog CC were all by Ch. Pouch Cove’s Onyxbay Wizard and the Reserve Bitch CC was his grandaughter. He has certainly left some quality offspring.

Minor Puppy Dog (5,1)

1st Miss S Ashdown & Mr D Bedford King Of Helluland Obsession To Win With Chateaunewf (naf,taf). Lively 7 month old black with a good head. Eyes could be better. Moved soundly once he settled. Good bone and feet.

2nd Mrs S Blake Sandbears Black Forest Gato. Steadier than 1 but plainer in head. Good bone and topline. Moved with confidence. Shoulders not as good as 1.

3rd Mrs P Leech Kingwalter (Imp Bel). Brown of good colour. Level topline and good bone. Happy boy with wagging tail but movement unsteady at the moment.

Puppy Dog (7,2)

1st Mr & Mrs C Morrell Morrelham Highland Park. Well grown black in good coat. Attractive head with short muzzle. Shoulders a bit upright but good bend of stifle. Best mover in this class. BP.

2nd Mrs P Leech Kingwalter (Imp Bel).

3rd Mr R Silcox Cewrirdŵr Llyn Hesgyn. Smaller boy with a good head, nice eyes and square muzzle. Fair bone. Moved ok but needs to strengthen behind.

Veteran Dog (6,1)

1st Mr D & Mrs C Lyall Scotiabear Bon Jovi, JW ShCM. An old favourite of mine. Nicely marked w/b. Not a big one but balanced and with a super outline. Lovely head, tight eye and short square muzzle. Super shoulders with correct angulation and length of upper arm. Strong topline through to well constructed rear quarters. Moved with precision and drive and not showing his nearly 10 years at all. Best W/B.

2nd Mrs S Benyon Millthorpe Sea Eagle from Kaijasholme. 9½ year old with super head. Superb neck and shoulders, bone and feet. Moved beautifully with a level topline.

3rd Mr & Mrs S Land Tawiscara Reuben. Another beautiful boy, nearly 8 years old. Lovely broad head, square muzzle and correct eyes. Great shoulders, feet and bone. Another super mover.

Junior Dog (2)

1st Mr B Walsh & Mrs S Brewer Lindgreave Summer Shadow. Attractive outline with broad head and short muzzle. Enough bone and good feet.

2nd Mr R & Mrs C Curtis Hanningfield Sea Breeze. Taller black. Head a bit heavy and eyes showing haw. Shoulders a bit upright but a strong neck and level topline. Played his handler up on the move.

Yearling Dog (5,1)

1st Mrs P Byers & Mr I Smith Solwaybay Telegram Sam. Not a big one but balanced with a good head. Short square muzzles, neat ears and correct eyes. Best mover in this class.

2nd Mr G Cockerill & Miss K Forster Merrybear Alejandro, JW ShCM. Again not a big one but he has an attractive head with a short muzzle and neat ears. Moved much better when handler slowed down.

3rd Mr R & Mrs C Curtis Hanningfield Simply Magic. Another small one but has a good head with a gorgeous expression. Fair bone. Moved fairly well but not as well as 1.

Res Mr G Jackson Sandbears Carinthian Spirit.

Novice Dog (1)

1st Ms L Fotheringham Sandbears Flybaboo. Small black with super tight eyes, a square muzzle and well set ears. Shoulders quite good and a level topline. Would prefer more size and bone. Tends to throw left hind on the move.

Graduate Dog (1)

1st Ms L Fotheringham Sandbears Flybaboo.

Post Graduate Dog (11,2)

1st Mr K, Mrs S & Miss J Walden Wanitopa Cruising Along of Joalta. W/B with strong head and neck, into well laid back shoulders. Strong level topline and well made rear quarters. Moved with drive.

2nd Mr W & Mrs C Lloyd Cewrirdŵr Llyn Cowlyd. Smaller black with attractive head and tight eyes and short broad muzzle. Good bone. Moved well with a level topline.

3rd Mrs A Fitzgerald Joalta Moon Mission. 6 year old W/B. Untrimmed and unsculpted, but that didn’t matter. So well put together with a lovely head and expression. Beautiful straight front. Moved really well.

Limit Dog (8)

1st Mr B & Mrs J Woodhall Bearhugs Falcon. Super balanced boy in firm condition. Plenty of bone, tight feet and balanced throughout. Strong head, ears a bit long but with dark tight eyes. Looked as if he could go all day.

2nd Mr R & Mrs C Hobbs Alphabear Thunderstruck. Head a bit heavy and ears too long but I could not ignore his quality. So balanced with strong bone and good overall construction. Moved really well. Just preferred the head of 1.

3rd Mrs E Dickson & Mr T McCarthy Priorscove Ebony Eclipse, ShCM. Attractive dog with a broad head, strong bone and balanced throughout. Moved well driving off strong hocks.

Open Dog (7)

1st Mrs J Sheriden Ch. Hanningfield Touch Of Magic, JW ShCM. This dog has a beautiful head and melting expression, with tight dark eyes. He looked a picture. Super bone and tight feet. Well laid shoulders and a good turn of stifle, with strong hocks. Nothing about him is exaggerated. He moved with power and precision with a level topline. Dog CC & Res BIS.

2nd Mr A & Mrs J Milne and Mr D & Mrs C Lyall Ch. Scotiabear Talk Of The Town at Rathmil. Very close between 1 & 2. Beautiful head and expression. Wonderful bone, tight feet and level topline. Just lacking coat on underline which unbalanced his outline. Res Dog CC.

3rd Mr W & Mrs A Dobbin Ch., Ir. Ch. Brooklynbear Nijinsky. Smaller dog than 1 & 2 but very active. Has a profuse coat which makes him look short in the leg.

Spec Open Brown Dog (3,1)

1st Mrs P Leech Bel. & Lux. Ch. Nandobear’s Cukoo. Beautiful colour brown. Has slight wrinkle on muzzle but has a good outline and plenty of bone, Moved fairly well.

2nd Miss A Foster Wilderland Roll Me Away. 9 year old boy, enjoying his day out. Lovely expression and good bone but carrying too much weight, which affected his movement.

1st Mr K & Mrs S & Miss J Walden Wanitopa Cruising Along of Joalta. See 1st in Post Graduate Dog.

2nd Mrs A Fitzgerald Joalta Moon Mission. See 3rd in Post Graduate Dog.

3rd Mr R & Mrs A Leitch Seafar Vinqueur Docean. Large heavily marked dog with a strong head. Plenty of bone but is a bit long in the body. Moved quite well.

Minor Puppy Bitch (6)

1st Mrs S Blake Rose’wanted Gee Whizz avec Sandbears. 7 month old, pretty black with dark, tight eyes. Well balanced with good angulation fore & aft. Movement a bit untidy at present.

2nd Mrs C Davies Bridgestone Delamere Bearscove (naf). Different type but still feminine. Dark, tight eyes. Good bone and level topline. Moved adequately.

3rd Mr P & Mrs A Patterson Kissyface at Wilderland (Imp Bel,naf). Attractive brown of 7 months. Not the balance of 1 & 2 but moved soundly with confidence.

Puppy Bitch (3)

1st Mr R & Mrs H Nolan Sandbears Got Attitude in Newruff. Well grown 9 month black with a pretty head and dark, tight eyes. Well made throughout with a super topline. Moved really well.

2nd Mr W & Mrs C Lloyd Cewrirdŵr Llyn Goddionduon. Very pretty 11 month black with all the attributes of 1 but just not so good on the move.

3rd Mr R & Mrs J Bown Sandbears Angel Delight with Bownbears. Another pretty black with super bone. Strong neck, good feet and topline. A bit untidy on the move.

Veteran Bitch (3,1)

1st Mr P & Mrs A Patterson Wilderland The Sorceress. Nearly 9 years old. Moving really well and so soundly. Pretty head with tight dark eyes. Not showing her age at all.

2nd Mr R & Mrs S Land Ch. Tawiscara Roxanne. Nearly 8 years old and not moving quite as freely as 1. but she is a lovely lady with good head and kind expression. A worthy Champion.

Special Veteran Bitch (5,1)

1st Mr A & Mrs K Farrar Darkpeak Penny Dreamweaver. 11½ year old brown girl in super condition. So well made throughout with super bone and feet. Moved so well with such dignity. I thought she was beautiful. BV.

2nd Mrs P George Crystal Water Dallas. 10 year old black in good condition. Well put together and moved happily and soundly, not showing her age.

3rd Mr D & Mrs C Pugsley Abbeydore Sea Breeza of Tahyee. 9 year old big black girl. Still showing well. Good balance and bone. Good condition.

Res Mr B & Mrs J Caldwell Lossmaig Jade.

Junior Bitch (7,1)

1st Mr T & Mrs D Richards Sheridel Acara Acadia. 15 month black. Beautifully proportioned. Correct shoulders and good turn of stifle. Strong neck into level topline with well set tail. Darkest, tight eyes and a wicked expression. Moved so soundly with purpose and drive. Res B CC.

2nd Mrs C Baldock Ohoi’s Keep The Faith Gunnersnewfs (Imp). Attractive girl with a beautiful straight coat. Broad head and muzzle. Strong neck into good shoulders. Level topline and strong rear quarters. Moved well but could be more enthusiastic.

3rd Mrs S Blake Sandbears Who Dares Wins. Pretty black with correct coat and eyes. Well set ears. Well balanced and moved adequately.

3rd Mr R & Mrs H Nolan Chrishelkate Cosmic Girl at Newruff. Attractive bitch of good type. Well boned and balanced but not the movement of 1 & 2.

1st Mr T & Mrs D Richards Sheridel Sasquahanna. Nicely marked W/B with plenty of bone. Pretty head with correct tight dark eyes and naughty expression. Beautifully balanced, moved with power and precision, driving off of strong hocks.

2nd Mr J & Mrs J Molyneux Tallisbay Tamara of Sakaribear. Different type. Heavier in build but still feminine. Very good bone,feet & level topline. Not the movement of 1.

Post Graduate Bitch (4,1)

1st Mr I & Mrs R Hutchinson Wanitopa Bounty Bunkin. Large W/B. Well marked with minimal ticking. Broad head with dark, tight eyes, lovely bone and tight feet. Well muscled. Moved effortlessly, with good drive.

2nd Mr B & Mrs J Woodhall Bearhugs Skylark. Lovely big black girl with good balance and well made throughout. So well muscled, which showed in her movement.

3rd Mrs P Byers & Mr I Smith Solwaybay Look At Me Now. Smaller type. Very feminine. Good angulation front and back and good bone. Moved well but without the drive of 1 & 2.

Limit Bitch (8,2)

1st Mr B & Mrs S Wedlake Alphabear Dancing Queen at Sealake, ShCM. Upstanding 3 year old black, presenting a lovely outline. Broad head with short square muzzle. Ears could be shorter. Very well made with balanced angulation fore and aft. Super bone and tight feet. Moved soundly with a level topline.

2nd Mrs S Lloyd-Denman Stelamah Just Love Her. Smaller bitch. Lovely colour brown who moved with great style. Pretty head with correct eyes and well set ears. Could be just a bit taller.

3rd Mrs W Austin Elbear Marianne Faithful. Taller black with lovely head and expression. Strong neck, correct shoulders and level topline. A bit overawed by the PA system.

1st Mr R & Mrs C Hobbs Ch. Sheridel Nerissa Of Alphabear, JW ShCM. Gorgeous black bitch. 6 years old and still showing like a youngster. So well put together, with well laid shoulders and good length of upper arm. Strong quarters, with good turn of stifle and strong hocks. She has a lovely quisical expression. Correct dark eyes. Such a powerful and effortless mover with great forward reach and rear drive. Bitch CC & BIS.

2nd Mrs C Baldock & Mrs J Sheridan Ch. Cannon Bear’s Never Forget (Imp). Beautiful bitch with a lovely head and expression. Balanced throughout and with a lovely outline. Moved well but could not match the precision and power of 1.

3rd Ms D Sarson & Miss J Watts Ch. Swanpool Ti Amo Pasticcino, JW. Another quality bitch. So well put together. Just beaten by the powerful movement of 1.

These two gentlemen and their dogs moved around the ring like something from Ben Hur. They moved with drive and enthusiasm and, mostly, had control. Well done.
