“An impressive young man of good size and substance, for one so young he has impressive bone. That kind Newfoundland expression greets you paired with a strong head, broad muzzle and a nice dark tight eye. Strong front assembly with sufficient neck flowed into a nice topline ending in tail meeting the hawk. He moved freely covering the ground well for his age. Nicely angulated throughout and only beaten for Best Baby Puppy by what I found out later to be his litter sister.”

“Whilst a similar age to the class winner, this young man just didn’t have the same substance, however they are baby puppies and a lot can change in the months/years to come. Finer in head than 1 but this was consistent throughout meaning this young man was well balanced and this showed on the move. Topline was level and angulation was very good. He just needs time to grow and fill out.”

“A very pleasing veteran for his age with little to dislike. He was presented perfectly which added to his overall picture. Well proportioned head, ample muzzle and stop, correct eye shape and colour, nice ear placement, creating a balanced headshot. Good reach of neck flowing into a level topline, well set shoulders and sufficient chest, strong well angulated rear quarters, tail set and length all as they should be and his movement, straight and true with the energy of a dog half his age.”

“Another pleasing veteran again presented in tip top condition. Much to like with this boy too, his headpiece all in relevant proportions with tight dark eye and that sweet expression that we all expect. Strong in forequarters with well angulated rears however the class winner did have the edge on the move. While both carried themselves very well on the move holding their toplines this boy was a little close behind for my liking. These small differences determine the placings but all in all both dogs deserve credit for their performance in the ring and their presentation and quality at their respective ages.”

“This elderly statesman is the epitome of what we should all want for our breed, to enter the ring at almost 10 yrs of age and still look how he did and compete. For me he possesses what a lot of our breed now lacks, size, substance and substantial bone, he is old school Newfoundland, what I grew up with. He may not have the energy and movement he once had but that was forgiven today as his many other qualities shone through, one of only a handful of dogs today which made me smile. Mellow expression with broad muzzle, nice stop, tight dark eye, broad skull all complimenting a lovely headpiece. Very strong in forequarters with his foreleg filling my hand grip. He still has his topline too. Well angulated throughout and in fantastic coat with immaculate presentation. And whilst he may not have the horsepower he once did he still managed a showmans lap of the ring. I take my hat off to the dog and owner.”

“A 10 mth old average sized male, still in his development stages where he simply needs time to fill out. Pleasing head with kind expression, nice tight dark eye, good breadth of skull. Ample reach of neck and level topline with good front assembly not lacking in upper arm complimented with well angulated rear allowing this boys showpiece to be his movement, lovely reach and drive allowing him to cover the ground effortlessly. Presented beautifully and no doubt will be pushed hard but todays 2 in months to come.”

“Being a litter brother to 1 they have many similarities, however in certain areas 1 has the upper hand most notably in freedom of movement and proportioning of the head. Whilst 1 moved with more ease and purpose I am aware that I judged this class later in the day so a little fatigue may have played a part, he is a puppy after all. On side profile he emulates his brother very well, ample bone for his size and not lacking in angulation, level in topline which he held on the move and like his brother presentation was flawless. Second today but the future is bright.”

“Very impressed with this young man, should he continue to mature in the way he has so far he will undoubtedly be challenging for CC’s in the near future. From front to back he ticked the boxes. Well formed headpiece with ideal proportions from length and breadth of muzzle, to his correct stop and good breadth of skull for his age. Tight dark eye and proper ear shape and placement. Strong in forequarters with ample bone and good depth of chest. Lovely neckline leading into a level topline, correct croup and tailset creating a lovely side profile both static and on the move. Nice spring of rib, well angled rears and strong hocks finish off this boy nicely and he did not disappoint on the move either covering the ground with effortless reach and drive. He pushed hard for reserve best male.”

“An average sized brown male but what he lacked in size he made up for in consistency, and anyone who knows me well would know I love a nice brown. Smaller he may be but he is so compact and well balanced his size suits him. Superb head not overdone in any way, strong and masculine but still retaining that kind expression. Well constructed front assembly, plenty of bone and good length of upper arm, nice depth of chest and great reach and drive up front. Reach of neck and topline just flowed. Nice spring of rib and well muscled rear quarters with ample angulation and strong hocks finished this boy off nicely. He covered the ground so well and free stacked with a lovely side profile, another one to watch.”

“My first impression was a good one of this boy as he had superb size and bone. On closer inspection he just needs time, time to fill out in chest and overall body breadth. Strong in head with broad skull, nice breadth of muzzle and a tight dark eye. Neck reach and topline are all very pleasing as is tail set and length. He is well boned and angulated throughout but would benefit from a little more spring of rib. As with a few dogs today I would be very interested to see him in 12 months time.”

“A very different dog to the class winner, much smaller but very compact and well proportioned throughout. Finer in skull width and overall head assembly, his one let down was a rather loose eye however. Ample reach of neck into well set shoulders and good depth of chest, with nice upper arm. Level topline into good tailset and well angulated rear quarters. Impressed on the move with reach and drive and constantly showed a genuine happiness to be in the ring with his owner.”

“A deserving class winner of good size and substance throughout. He held a lovely profile on stack which he retained on the move. Characterful head, typically Newfoundland with broad muzzle paired with matching broad skull, tight dark eye and good dentition. Ample reach of neck, level topline, strong in forequarters with good bone and tight feet. Well sprung rib and nice rear angulation, nothing in this boy is overdone. Moved like a dream completing his overall picture. Once again I would like to see this boy in 12 months time.”

“On approach this boy made me smile with his kind, soft expression. Not as strong overall as the class winner most notably on the move. In most other aspects he held his own being a decent sized male who was well proportioned throughout, pleasing headpiece with nice dark eye, ample reach of neck, would benefit from having more depth of chest. Good tail set and length meeting the hock, presentation was top drawer.”

“Ultimately my Best Male and Best in Show winner, those who know me will know my soft spot for a beautiful brown as my first three Newfs were all brown many years ago. He may not be the most sizeable male but he is so perfectly balanced and compact on side profile, his masculine head compliments this with nice broad muzzle, good stop, tight correct shaped eye of pleasing colouring. Ample in neck reaching into strong forequarters and plenty of upper arm allowing unexaggerated front reach. Well boned and strong in foreleg with chest in abundance. Perfect topline which he held on the move complimented with good tail carriage. Well sprung in rib, perfect rear angulation and strong in hock. On the move he exemplified reach and drive covering the ground effortlessly, with his strong bone and excellent muscle throughout assisiting. Finally his presentation was on point putting the lid on a fabulous male and deserved BIS winner on the day. I will definitely be keeping an eye on his future progress.”

“Another fantastic exhibit in this Limit class with many redeeming qualities, like the class winner his side profile was very pleasing and again presentation was flawless. Head proportions matched his overall structure very well, not overdone in any way. Soft kind expression coupled with strength in skull and matching muzzle, correct dentition and a pleasing tight dark eye. Lovely neck reach onto well set shoulders and again any amount of upper arm. His topline flowed from neck to tail which he held impressively on the move and he displayed reach and drive in abundance, no exaggeration or over running, just steady ground coverage. Another one to watch as he progresses his show career.”

Well boned throughout, ample in chest and forequarters. Lovely spring of rib and nice angulation in the rear. His movement was on point both coming and going, effortless and free striding and a deserving winner of Best Black in Show.”

“Another impressive black male of good size and substance, strong in head with good breadth of skull and muzzle, correct dentition and a nice tight dark coloured eye, nice reach of neck with powerful forequarters and ample bone throughout. Level topline flowing into correct croup with tail meeting the hock. Well sprung rib and lovely rear angulation. Having been his second show of the day and with the warm temperatures he did lack a little drive on the move and towards the end of the class developed a minor limp on the front left otherwise his challenge on 1 would have been stronger.”

“An average sized young man but as with other medium sized males today he is well proportioned throughout. Pleasing headpiece with skull to muzzle ratios and a kind expression almost smiling if he could. Eyes tight and dark with correct ear shape and placement. His neckline flowed nicely into a level topline ending in tail meeting the hock. Strong enough in bone to match his overall size, muscular throughout and nicely angulated. His markings were on point as was his presentation on the day. If anything my only negative would be that I would have liked a little more of him but having said that he was still an easy choice for my Best White & Black in Show.”

“Whilst larger in size in comparison to the class winner for me he just wasn’t as well proportioned throughout. His size is commendable but lacked overall breadth to fulfil and complete his picture, more breadth of chest and spring of rib would be desired. That said he does have a pleasing head, good skull to muzzle proportions, tight dark eye and correct ear placement, ample reach of neck into strong forequarters. Straight in foreleg with lovely rear angulation and well toned muscle. On the move he did carry himself well but a little more drive and enthusiasm would definitely have shown him off better.”

“A most impressive young man from the outset, on the stack he looked balanced, well proportioned and presented in impeccable condition. Strong in head with good breadth of muzzle, pleasing dark eye and correct ear placement. Neckline flowed into a solid level topline which he held on the move. Up front he displayed a well laid shoulder, ample upper arm, nice breadth of chest and a nice straight foreleg carrying good bone throughout. Nice spring of rib and well angulated rear, strong in hock, all coming together on the move as he displayed good reach and drive with ease. One to watch in my opinion.”

“This young lady had me from the start as she moved around the ring on her entrance simply owning her surroundings with style and confidence. Beautifully feminine but still holding ample bone and size for her age. Her happy kind expression shows off her pretty head, and without delving into specifics on one so young she is just as I would like her at this stage. But her movement was her party piece, reach, drive, covering the ground so well with her head up, tail wagging constantly glancing up to her handler. On the day she did beat her litter brother for Best Baby Puppy and I will definitely keep an eye in future to see this young lady mature.”

“At 8 yrs old this brown female really caught my eye, presented perfectly and moved like a dog half her age. Very pretty and feminine in head, enough substance without being overdone and a tight eye of pleasing colour for a brown. Good reach of neck into strong well chested forequarters showing lovely front movement. Topline was level, rib well sprung and strong in loin. Well angulated rear assembly with nice muscle throughout and good drive from the rear on the move. A very deserving Best Veteran in Show and a credit to the breed for her condition and age.”

“At 9 years old this girl was in fantastic condition, of very good size, well boned throughout with ample substance and body breadth. Soft expression and nicely proportioned skull to muzzle ratio coupled with a nice dark eye giving a balanced headpiece. Strong in forequarters with good chest width and well boned foreleg. Well sprung rib and strong well angulated hindquarters. She covered the ground well on the move with ample reach and drive for her age. Overall a fine specimen for her age presented in great condition and deserved class winner.”

“On first impressions this young lady looked so enticing. Sublime markings, very clean cut and presented to perfection. Feminine in head but with enough breadth of skull and muzzle, pleasing dark eye and correct ear shape and size. Nicely set shoulder and straight forleg, however I would prefer more depth of chest but with one so young in such a sizeable frame she has time on her side to fill out and I have no doubt she will. Her topline flowed into correct croup and tail met the hock nicely. On the move whilst a little close behind and loose up front I do believe as she fills out this will improve and as with others today I would like to see her in 18 months time, Credit to her handler on her presentation today as it was top drawer.”

“At 21 months old this young lady is still maturing, of average size and build, very feminine in head with correct eye shape and colour. Ample reach of neck, would prefer a little more upper arm as she lacked reach on the move, and her chest requires a little more time to fill out. Level in topline through to tail meeting hock and well angulated throughout. She did cover the ground well however she was a little close on front and rear movement, however she is still growing and maturing, some more time to fill our and broaden herself will do her no harm at all.”

Tight in eye with a nice dark colouring, average in skull with complimenting muzzle and that pleasing kind expression. Nice reach of neck onto well set shoulders, straight in foreleg and ample in upper arm. Level in topline and just enough spring of rib. Well angulated in the rear and well muscled throughout. Free and easy without exaggeration on the move covering the ground well. Presented very well on the day adding to the overall picture.”

“A contrasting female to the class winner being very strong in head, just a little too strong for me, this is not a fault and most likely preferred but some judges, it’s just my personal preference. Typically I like my females to be strong and fit to work but still holding a good degree of feminine presence. Front assembly was rather good with straight foreleg, strong bone, ample chest and broad in shoulder, well barrelled rib and well angulated rear. Movement was impressive with good reach and drive and definitely pushed the class winner all the way.”

“Like the Limit class winner this young lady is not the biggest but you just cannot ignore her proportioning and balance, she carries a flow from skull to tail with lovely reach of neck, level topline and correct tail carriage with tail meeting hock. Feminine in head but with strength, notably in skull and muzzle with good stop, dark eye and correct ear placement. Her construction was perfect for her shape and size, well boned but not overdone and very well angulated but again not overdone. On the move she shone, covering the ground so effortlessly, reach and drive, head in the air loving what she was doing, a proper show off and an easy class winner today.”

Good depth of chest and well barrelled rib. Topline level and held nicely on the move with correct tail set. Well angulated rear with sufficient muscle. Moved straight and true coming and going, she just lacked the finesse and x factor which the class winner possessed on the day but still a commendable example.”

Nice angulation in the rear with good muscle allowing good drive from the rear on the move and her coat condition and presentation was flawless.”

“A nice female but not just of the quality of the class winner. Kind feminine expression with decent muzzle to skull proportion. I would prefer more reach of neck and a stronger topline due to her length of back. Foreleg could be straighter on free stand and a little loose in the elbow. On the move she did cover the ground but lacked the tightness up front to compete for higher placement in the class.”

“A fantastic example of a brown female, strong but feminine, superb bone and size but with balance, proportion and well crafted construction. Strong in head with good breadth of muzzle matched with a strong skull, nice dark eye for a brown and correct dentition. Very nice reach of neck into powerful forequarters. Shoulder well laid, ample in upper arm, straight in foreleg and good breadth of chest, this breadth was carried throughout with her well sprung rib and solid barrell. Topline was level stacked and on the move, croup well set and tail met the hock nicely. Her rear quarters were were angulated with very good muscle and strong in hock which all allowed her to drive effortlessly on the move. She moved with a good blend of power and ease, reach and drive and coupled with her immaculate presentation she presented a very pleasing picture. In tough competition for best bitch she earned her award and a deserving Reserve Best in Show. I have no doubt more CC wins will not be far away for this girl.”

“Firstly I would like to start with commending the young handler of this bitch, she carried herself impeccably throughout the class with superb manners, confident but friendly attitude and complete consideration for her dog. She truly made my day, our breed needs more young ladies like this coming through.

A very feminine young bitch with pleasing head a such a kind inviting expression. Not the biggest of females but she is in proportion. Eye is dark and correct ear placement, good reach of neck into a level topline, well set tail which met the hock. Up front she had ample chest and a good straight foreleg, more upper arm would be preferred as the lack of reach was apparent on the move. Short in hock and well angulated rear quarters were very pleasing and this was shown on the move as she had superb rear drive, the balance on the moving side profile was lost a little however due to the lack of upper arm on the front. All in all she deserved her class win and I do hope this pair continue their showing journey together.”
